Dear Sherwood Family:

I would like to begin by thanking each and every one of you for an outstanding 2020-2021 school year.  It has been a wonderful year thanks to all of you for assisting with remote learning and making sure your children were online and engaged every day ready to learn and passionate about their education and their future. 

Thank you also parents for being outstanding educational partners who want their very best for their children.  Sherwood is a place that we are all so proud to be associated with and a school that is striving for excellence at all times thanks to all of you and our teachers and staff members.

The examples of what makes Sherwood so great are a lot but, I would like to highlight one great thing that took place this year.  Our attendance was lower than normally, but we were able to maintain over 90% of our children attending this school year. We thank  you for accepting our daily calls and understanding the importance of good attendance.  

My LAST URGENT REQUEST to all of you is to please return your devices this week to avoid a charge.  We need all devices and electrical cords returned ASAP and no later than this Friday. We are open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day this week and we need all of our CHROMEBOOKS, IPADS and CHORDS for each device returned to us this week. 

Please call your child's teacher or Mr. Brown or Ms. Larry to set up your time to come to school tomorrow please. 773-535-0829 dial zero.   This is very important and all devices must be returned if they have not been returned yet.  This includes students who are out of town.  Out of town families must return their devices securely and quickly this week.  Mr. Brown is in charge of all computers and electrical devices.  Please reach out to him directly if you have questions as well. His number is 708-288-9047.

Our uniform next year will continue to be purple or black tops and black bottoms for all of our students.  Our students will begin instruction at 9:00 a.m. and will end at 4:00 p.m.  Breakfast will be served in the classroom so, please do not arrive earlier than 8:55 a.m.   Safety procedures and protocols will continue to be in place next year, so early arrivals will not be allowed as in years past. This year our school year begins in August. School begins August 30.  2021 for all Chicago Public School students.  Please mark your calendars and continue to contact me personally at the number below.

Title IX (OSP) Sexual Misconduct and Title IX Student Training

 

Dear Family, Parents/Caregivers and Guardians,

 With an ever changing education landscape, the safety of our Chicago Public Schools (CPS) students continues to be of the utmost importance.  Earlier this year, our staff completed compliance training “Protecting Chicago’s Children”. These training sessions further ensure our staff remain vigilant about addressing any issues that could compromise the health and safety of your students.  The next phase of the Office of Student Protection and Title IX’s commitment to this endeavor is providing training on preventing and reporting abuse to all K-12 CPS students. 

 

The Office of Student Protection and Title IX (OSP) Sexual Misconduct and Title IX Student Training covers the following 5 learning objectives in developmentally appropriate language:

1. Students will understand CPS Title IX Policy and Discrimination Statement
2. Students will know who the Title IX Coordinator is, what OSP does, and how to get in touch with OSP
3. Students will understand what constitutes sexual harassment 
4. Students will be aware of the resources available to students who report sexual harassment or retaliation, including interim measures pending an investigation
5. Students will know what to do if they believe they or other students have been subjected to sexual harassment 

 

As a district OSP has collaborated across a number of departments to create developmentally appropriate sessions that will allow students to identify abuse and empower them to report any wrong doing that may have occurred. The sessions have been broken down by PreK-3rd Grade, 4th-8th Grade, and 9th-12th Grade and are all around 30-45 minutes.

ERIN’S LAW PRESENTATION - INFORMATION & OPT OUT FORM

On January 24, 2013, Gov. Pat Quinn signed a new law, Erin’s Law, into effect for all Illinois schools.

Erin’s Law requires schools to provide age-appropriate sexual abuse prevention education for all students,

Pre-K - 12, on an annual basis. In accordance with the state and federal law, all students in Pre-K through

12th grade will receive age-appropriate training from the District. The Office of Student Protections and

Title IX has collaborated across a number of departments to create developmentally appropriate

sessions that will allow students to identify abuse and empower them to report any wrong doing

that may have occurred. The sessions have been broken down by PreK-3rd Grade, 4th-8th Grade,

and 9th-12th Grade, and are all around 30-45 minutes. The training will take place on May 4, 2021 and May 17, 2021

Ms. Bryant's Sound Bites

Good Evening Parents: This is Ms. Bryant calling to remind you of several important items to keep us all safe and on the same page as a school community. 1. Please do not stop into the school without making an appointment. The only individuals allowed access are individuals who are having computer issues and must call Mr. Brown at 708/288-9047 to set up a convenient time. In person students and staff are also allowed, all others must have an appointment – no exceptions. 2. Mr. Johnson our security officer has been directed by the Administration and CPS Safety and Security Department that all visitors must have an appointment to enter the building and must complete a health screener once you set up the appointment. No one is allowed in the building without a health screener – again, there is no exception. 3. All students MUST have their guardians complete their health screeners. Students are not allowed to fill out their own screeners, so parents please make sure you complete them every morning . 4. Early dismissals are not allowed unless it is a diar emergency. Please call the school if an emergency arises in order for your child to be escorted out to your vehicle at the front door. Parents, please remain in your vehicles and we will bring your child to you once you call the school to let us know you have arrived. 5. Parents, thank you for following the morning procedures by entering through you assigned door. Please continue that process – it has been very effective in keep us organized and safe. 6. Devices must be protected and guarded moving forward. We are implementing a fee for broken devices and we want to make sure your devices are kept safe and unharmed. For more information on our new policy regarding fees for broken devices, please review your emails later today. 7. Attendance by all students Is mandatory and we need your help making sure your child sign on and any attendance issues are corrected immediately. Finally, this week is teacher and staff appreciation.
